Summary:

As a public servant, your position involves providing advice, opinions, reflection and viewpoints on internal as well as external initiatives and decisions.  In fact, as a federal, provincial or municipal public servant your professional success depends on your ability to think strategically. We are often told we "need to be strategic" in order to address the diverse challenges inherent in our organization. During your career as a public servant you will be faced with many different circumstances where your ability to be a strategic thinker may mean the difference between success or failure. Strategic thinking is a learned skill as well as a commonly applied competency.  This course is designed to help you:

  • Define and understand strategic thinking
  • Understand and apply the differences and linkages between strategic, critical, analytical and creative thinking
  • Identify and use essential skills, knowledge and behaviours that contribute to strategic thinking
